Miley Cyrus - Мiley Cyrus And Her Dead Petz Album

After a night of try-hard hosting the VMAs, Miley Cyrus ended the show with a performance of a new song called “Dooo It!” accompanied by a host of drag queens, many of whom are veterans of RuPaul’s Drag Race. After the song, she announced that her new album would be available to stream for free via mileycyrusandherdeadpetz.com. There’s also an accompanying music video for “Dooo It!” that you can watch below.


There are 23 tracks on the long-rumored collection and most of them are collaborations with the Flaming Lips. Cyrus executive produced the album, and has writing credits on all of the songs. There are several other featured collaborators, including Ariel Pink (on the previously performed “Tiger Dreams“), Sarah Barthel of Phantogram, Big Sean, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Mike Will Made-It. In a New York Times interview accompanying the release of the album, Cyrus explains that the record was made for about $50,000 — none of it was funded by RCA Records, and it won’t count towards her multi-album contract with the label. Instead, she self-released Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz and put it out on the Flaming Lips’ Lovely Sorts of Death imprint.
She also talked about the death of her dog Floyd and how it impacted the creation of the album, and her relationship with Wayne Coyne:

But it wasn’t until she returned home to pursue natural healing that things got “really trippy,” she said. “This is going to sound crazy,” but a Chinese healer “sent me into a state where my dog was lifted out of my lungs and placed on my shoulder,” she explained. “I pet my dog for like three hours,” and after finally telling Floyd she had to “let go and put his energy out,” Ms. Cyrus continued, “I really think, in a way, his energy went into Wayne’s energy. What he was to me, Wayne has become.
[…] He’s everything in the world — you can’t even define us,” Ms. Cyrus said. “I am 100 percent in love with Wayne, and Wayne is in love with me, but it’s nothing sexual in any way. That would be the grossest.

And she had some choice words for Taylor Swift, who won the VMAs Video Of The Year award last night:

While a pop star like Taylor Swift may be gathering “musicians, actresses, models, entrepreneurs,” she said, “I’m not trying to be in the squad.” She continued, “None of my friends are famous and not because of any other reason than I just like real people who are living real lives, because I’m inspired by them.”

The title of the project refers to the album’s actual inspiration: the deaths, in rapid succession, of Cyrus’ beloved dog Floyd, her blowfish Pablow and dear friend’s cat Twinkle. The period of mourning that followed evolved into artistic catharsis for Cyrus. But just as, say, David Bowie used the Spiders from Mars to back up his Ziggy Stardust persona, …Dead Petz also serves as the name of the vanguard musical collective supporting Cyrus in her latest transformation.
